Hiking trails: the Biancane Geothermal Park in Monterotondo Marittimo
New appointment to discover the beauties of Maremma! Today we are going to talk about the Biancane Geothermal Park, a impressive place that will give you the impression of being on another planet. This park in fact has a truly singular appearance, with an atypical flora and a soil with particular colours due to the considerable geothermal activity related to the area. In fact, the park is full of unique natural geothermal manifestations such as “Soffioni”, high puffs of vapor emerging from the ground; “Bulicami”, boiling mud lakes; “Putizze”, or vapor spills rich in hydrogen sulfide and still “Mofete”, natural carbon dioxide emissions that emerge from fractures in the soil.
This extraordinary park, with its unique natural habitat, is a very interesting destination for trekking enthusiasts. The Municipality of Monterotondo Marittimo, in collaboration with Enel Green Power, has decided to value it with a route that crosses some of the most fascinating areas of the park. There are numerous guided tours that take place in all seasons of the year: a great opportunity to admire the park in all its beauty.
Since 2010 the Biancane Geothermal Park is part of UNESCO and is considered a human heritage.
